I can cook (healthily)!

The project of the Catholic Women's Social Service Association at the Gartenstadt Primary School introduces children to the joys of healthy eating.

Peeling carrots, mashing potatoes, chopping herbs: for most people, preparing healthy meals from fresh ingredients is important. However, many children do not eat a balanced diet and know very little about how food is turned into delicious meals.

With this project, the Catholic Women's Social Service Association at Gartenstadt Primary School is sparking children's interest in handling fresh food and strengthening their knowledge of nutrition. The children receive lots of tips and guidance on enjoyable and healthy eating in everyday family life.

Every Thursday after school, the school canteen is open to all year groups for cooking and baking.

A group consists of 10 children who are allowed to spend four weeks in the kitchen with the trained SkF e. V. food ambassador, having lots of fun and enjoying themselves. There, they are taught everything they need to know about the conscious use of various kitchen appliances and foodstuffs in an educational manner. Even first-year children are allowed to chop fruit and vegetables, fry the latter and stir them in a saucepan or frying pan. During the 1.5 hours of cooking time, they prepare a simple, small meal, which is then eaten afterwards. The children know exactly what is in it and how much work goes into even a seemingly simple dish.

Many children are more willing to try new foods if they have been involved in the process of creating them. This can lead to some lightbulb moments when they realise, "Hey! This actually tastes pretty good." If this moment doesn't happen, the children are of course not forced to finish their tasting portion. Each child decides for themselves how much to eat.

The focus is on having fun learning to cook and bake and discovering new foods and meals that are not often found in the family with all the senses. The goal is for children to come home and say, "I can cook (healthily)."

This offer was made possible throughout the entire school year by the campaign.

"Together we can achieve more" by Sparkasse Schweinfurt, which raised a total of €2,400.00 from donations and voucher codes.

The Catholic Women's Social Service Association and the children of Gartenstadt Primary School would like to express their sincere gratitude to all donors.
